The Art of the Interview with Kate Ellis | Jan. 2017

Maybe being in front of the lens makes you nervous. Or, maybe you already host a show but you'd like to improve your interveiw skills. This class will teach you how to be a great interviewer - from preparing questions and topics, to speaking clearly on mic. 

Students will learn the best way to phrase your questions to get the right kind of responses, how to put your guests at ease before you start rolling, and how to let curiostiy be your guide. This course is reccommended for anyone interested in, or currently hosting, a studio, field, or podcast program, anyone interested in participating in the Belmont Story Project, or Belmont students interested in developing their interview skills.

About the Instructor: Kate Ellis is an award-winning public radio and podcast producer recognized for creating groundbreaking documentaries and books on tewentieth century U.S. history, race relations, and public affairs. She has been a long-time contributor to APM Reports, the national documentary unit of American Public Media. Ellis has published two anthologies of African American oratory, "Say it Plain: A century of Great African American Speeches", and "Say it Loud: Great Speeches on Civil Rights and African American Identity", and co-edited a volume of interivews with people who witnessed and survived 9/11. She holds a Ph.D. in Ahtropology from Columbia University.
