On-Location: Field Production Basics Workshop


In this two part class filmmaker Jay Fedigan will cover the basics of videotaping in the field.   This class is designed for anyone who wants to learn how to create documentaries and interview shows.

Part 1: An introduction to the video production process covering pre-production, production and post-production.

Pre-production will include developing the concept and writing a short description/outline of the video; Planning and scripting for dramatic projects; Project budgeting and financing; Scheduling and coordinating locations, crew, equipment and talent for shoots.

Production will cover cameras, types of shots and camera movement; Lights and lighting techniques; wireless and wired mikes and field mixers.

Post-production will discuss description of different edition platforms; Outlets for the finished projects.

Part 2: Hands on with the equipment. 

The class will set up lights, camera and sound and everyone will have a chance to shoot mock interviews. Students will experiment with different set-ups and demonstrate different techniques. You will then view and discuss the mock interviews you’ve just shot.
