MA House of Representatives Formal Session - June 6th, 2018

The Massachusetts House advanced a roughly $473 million life sciences bill, which is also laden with tax incentives, in hopes of getting it to the governor before the Biotechnology Innovation Organization International Convention leaves Boston after Thursday. The House also accepted and enacted a conference committee report authorizing $3.87 billion in borrowing and spending on state facility repairs and other capital needs. Both of those bills need to be enacted by the Senate before heading to Gov. Charlie Baker.

The House voted 143-3 to pass an environmental bond bill (H.4599) that Ways and Means Chairman Jeffrey Sanchez said contained more than $2 billion in proposed spending on air and water quality improvements, parkways and trails, electric vehicle incentives and coastal infrastructure. Before the final vote, several members - Reps. Jack Lewis, Carolyn Dykema and Hannah Kane - paid tribute to the late Rep. Chris Walsh of Framingham, who passed away this year from cancer.
