The Long Run: Father of Missing Mexican Student Finishes New York Marathon to Call for Son's Return

Antonio Tizapa crossed the finish line of the New York City Marathon Sunday holding a poster of his son's face. Tizapa's son, Jorge Antonio Tizapa Legideño, is one of the 43 students from Ayotzinapa rural teachers' college missing from the Mexican state of Guerrero since the night of September 26, 2014, when they were attacked by local police. The Mexican government has claimed the students were killed and incinerated by a local drug gang.

The Obama administration recently warned Puerto Rico faces a humanitarian crisis unless Congress takes steps to address its crushing debt. The White House wants lawmakers to approve bankruptcy protection for the U.S. territory, expand Medicaid and impose a control board to oversee Puerto Rico's finances.

We speak to Rafael Bernabe, a professor, sociologist, historian, politician and a leading voice of the left in Puerto Rico. He ran for governor in 2012, representing the emerging Working People's Party in Puerto Rico.

NSA whistleblower Edward Snowden, Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist Glenn Greenwald, Brazilian privacy activist David Miranda and others have launched a new campaign to establish global privacy standards. The proposed International Treaty on the Right to Privacy, Protection Against Improper Surveillance and Protection of Whistleblowers would require states to ban mass data collection and implement public oversight of national security programs. The treaty would also require states to offer asylum to whistleblowers.

The Missing 43: Mexico Marks One Year Since Disappearance of Students

Sept. 26 marks the first anniversary of the disappearance of 43 students from the Ayotzinapa teachers' college in Mexico. The students were attacked by local police and subsequently went missing from Iguala in the southern Mexican state of Guerrero. A report released earlier this month by independent experts with the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights found no evidence to support the government's claim that the students were incinerated in a trash dump in a neighboring town. We speak to two journalists who have closely investigated the disappearances.

On Vietnam & the Power of Protest: Watch One of Julian Bond's Final Speeches (Exclusive)

Watch civil rights leader Julian Bond speak at the Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial on May 2, 2015, as part of the "Vietnam: Power of Protest" conference. Bond died on August 15 at the age of 75. Bond first gained prominence in 1960 when he organized a series of student sit-ins while attending Morehouse College. He went on to help found SNCC, the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee. Julian Bond would go on to co-found the Southern Poverty Law Center. He served as the organization's first president from 1971 to 1979.
