Heat Advisory - 6/21/12

The Belmont Municipal Light Department is currently experiencing very high power demand. We are asking our customers to PLEASE TURN OFF non-critical electric equipment to minimize extended power outages.

Very high temperatures and humidity are predicted through Friday, June 22nd - Residents can help conserve energy during peak times by reducing or rescheduling your use of electricity whenever possible - For specific steps - go to belmont-ma.gov/electric

The Belmont Municipal Light Department (BMLD) only uses the Town’s Emergency Reverse 911 messaging system in situations that the BMLD considers to be a public safety concern. Based on the North American Electrical Reliability Corporation (NERC) reliability standard, N-1, the BMLD electrical system has exceeded its firm capacity of 28 megawatts (MW).
At this level of demand, there is a greater likelihood of extended power outages if the load is not curtailed.

This problem of limited capacity is one of the three problems that the BMLD Substation Project will solve.
