Artist Statement:
This series is a result of the practice of exploration and reflection. Through my paintings, I explore the intricate layers of emotion in an attempt to capture the complexities of lived experience on a painted surface. As I work, my emotions naturally weave into each painting, making each piece a reflection of both my inner world and the external events that shape it. The things happening around me appear in my art whether I intend it or not, and each composition has its own story in my mind that is potentially unknown or unclear to the viewer. Made during the last year and a half, this collection ranges from large scale oil paintings to small watercolor and gouache drawings. This series explores the gap between my own experience, the painted product, and the perception of the viewer, as an exploration of memory and the act of recollection.
