Belmont Police Log, Aug. 28 to Sept. 13: "No Dogs Allowed" signs stolen, electric bicycle vandalized, hit and run, pedestrian struck, designer bags stolen and more

The following are excerpts from the Belmont Police log as made available by the Belmont Police Department. The log is public and available for review. All persons are presumed innocent until found guilty in a court of law.

Friday, Aug. 28

2:58 p.m.: Belmont Fire reported an accident. While exiting the bay door at Fire Headquarters at 2:40 p.m. in response to a medical in Waltham, one of the access doors to medical supplies on the driver’s side of the ambulance was a jar and struck the brick on the exterior of the bay door. There was paint transfer on the brick exterior of the bay door as well as scratches to the access door and the door hinges were bent. There were no injuries.

4:11 p.m.: A Broad Street resident reported identity theft. She received mail informing her that two credit card applications were denied from Barclays Bank. Both applications used her maiden name. She reported the attempts to Barclays security department as fraud as well as TransUnion, Experian and Equifax. A freeze was placed on her credit card from the credit bureaus. She also filed an identity theft claim with the Federal Trade Commission. She was advised to report future suspicious activity.

Sunday, Aug. 30

4:36 p.m.: An Upland Road resident reported her designer handbags missing. They were displayed in her closet. She searched her house but could not find them anywhere. The only people she allows in her house are her house cleaners. She last saw the handbags in early June. The first handbag was a Louis Vuitton, valued at $1,000. The second bag was a Chanel, valued at $3,5000. The third was a Prada, valued at $1,200 and the fourth was a Ferragamo, valued at $500. She spoke to the company she hires the cleaners from about the possibility the cleaners stole the handbags. The cleaning company was adamant that her cleaners would never steal from her clients.

8:47 p.m.: A street sign and mailbox were struck on Gordon Terrace at Thomas Street. The street sign was leaning over the sidewalk at an angle and the green mailbox on a concrete slab moved about one foot off its base. A resident said he was eating his dinner when he heard a loud crash outside. He observed a Camry type of sedan, light in color, possibly white or gray, continue driving down the street after it struck the sign and mailbox. He believes the vehicle attempted to take a left turn onto Gordon Terrace too late and struck the sign and the mailbox. Officers were unable to locate the offending vehicle.

Monday, Aug. 31

9:42 a.m.: A pedestrian was struck by a motor vehicle on Brighton Street. The victim said he is a landscaper hired by a property owner on Brighton Street. He was weed whacking directly in front of the home on a grass strip between the town sidewalk and the road. Without warning, his back was struck by the driver’s side rear view mirror of an unknown gray Honda sedan, possibly a Civic or an Accord. The Honda was traveling southbound on Brighton Street and for an unknown reason, it crossed the doubleyellow line into the northbound lane when the driver's side view mirror struck the victim’s back. The vehicle then swerved back into the right lane and continued southbound on Brighton Street until it made a right turn onto Cross Street. Officers searched the area but were unsuccessful in locating the offending vehicle. The victim was evaluated by Belmont Fire and Rescue and declined to go to the hospital. A neighbor will check his Ring camera activity to try to locate the offending vehicle’s plate number.The license plate could not be identified in the video footage.

Tuesday, Sept. 1

12:45 p.m.: Motor vehicle break-in on Leonard Street. A Surface laptop valued at approximately $2,000 was missing from the front passenger seat of an unlocked vehicle. The theft occurred between Aug. 25 and Aug. 26. The 2022 GMC Sierra was parked in front of a business on Leonard Street from 5:45 p.m. until 11 p.m. on Aug. 25. The victim did not notice the laptop was missing until the following morning. His Waverley Street’s home’s Ring camera yielded negative results.

Wednesday, Sept. 2

9:30 a.m.: Damage to a large USPS mailbox on Common Street. It appeared to be struck by a motor vehicle. There were no cameras in the immediate area.

6:19 p.m.: Damage to an electric bike, valued at $300 on White Street. It was parked on a bike rack this morning at 10:50 a.m. behind the Butler Elementary building When she returned at  6 p.m., she noticed it was damaged in several places. Most of the wires on the bike were broken and appeared to have been cut. The seat also had numerous marks on it .The front right brake handle was missing. The battery pack was intact, but loose as if someone attempted to remove it. A metal blue basket on the bike also appeared to be tampered with and broken. The cable lock on the bike was stretched out, but not broken. Footage from a camera on the exterior door of the school will be investigated.

Thursday, Sept. 3

1:24 p.m.: A hit and run on Pleasant Street. A woman’s vehicle was parked in the parking lot directly next to the Belmont Town Hall. A witness said that at approximately 1 p.m., she saw a vehicle back out of the parking spot and hit the left rear area of the vehicle. The driver got out of the vehicle and asked the witness if she hit the car. The witness said yes and then the woman spoke to a construction worker and drove away. The driver was an elderly white woman. The registered owner resides in Plymouth. Belmont Police contacted the Plymouth Police Department who provided them with the woman’s phone number. The phone number was not in service. 

Friday, Sept. 4

11:36 a.m.: A hit and run at the Church Street Dunkin Donuts. The victim said she parked her vehicle on Thayer Road across from the Belmont Car Care gas station on a public way at approximately 11 am. This morning. When she returned at 11 a.m., she observed minor damage to the front driver’s side bumper/quarter panel. The surveillance footage at the nearby gas station was reviewed, but the sun came up making it difficult to view any incident with the vehicle. 

11:40 a.m.: An older white female, approximately in her 60s, with grey/white hair, wearing a multi-colored blue shirt and jeans, urinated on the front porch of a Belmont home. Officers were unable to locate anyone matching the description in the area. A resident of the home said she was sitting in her living room on the first floor of the multi-family residence by the front window when she heard a grunting noise coming from outside on the front porch. When she looked out the front window, she observed the female party sitting in the plastic adirondack chair on the front porch. She and another resident went outside to see what was going on. They observed the female exiting their front porch and walking away towards White Street. Her jeans were soiled. The plastic adirondack chair was soaked with liquid which spilled through the slits in the seat and poured over the front of the porch. There was a strong odor of urine when they came outside and noticed the woman urinated through her jeans onto the chair. The female was observed in the area earlier in the morning and identified as a resident of a group home in Belmont The residents did not wish to press charges, but wanted to make sure she didn’t need medical attention. Officers made contact with the woman at the group home. She was sitting outside smoking a cigarette and still wearing the soiled jeans. She said she was out for a walk and needed to use a rest room. She was unable to make it back to her home and apologized for having the accident on the front porch of the home. She said she did not need medical attention. The officer spoke to a staff member at the group home and advised him of the situation. 

3:45 p.m.: A resident reported significant damage to his e-bike valued at $2,000. It was parked in front of Belmont High School between 11 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. The Xi Spark e-bike’s ignition looked like it was popped off by a screwdriver and the area had solder marks, possibly to be hotwired. The bike is secured with a wheel rock. He believes he knows the individual responsible. He heard rumors that the person, who is from another school, was going to the Belmont High campus to hotwire something. He had a screenshot of a profile with a picture of the suspect. 

Sunday, Sept. 6

5:17 p.m.: A Brighton Street resident reported his black rod iron table was taken from his driveway on Hurley Street. The table is valued at approximately $100. It was located at the end of his driveway near his town trash and recycle bins. He did not think anyone would have thought it was left out for trash. The wife said that the day before at around 4:45 pm., a white female in her mid-70s, driving a blue sedan, stopped in their driveway and took three pink hanging plans. She confronted the woman who she said believed they were being thrown out with the trash. She left the plants on top of the town trash and recycle bins to get some sun. The woman apologized and returned the plants. She did not think the woman took the table because she didn't see it when she opened the vehicle trunk. She also did not recall when the table went missing.

Tuesday, Sept. 8

10:48 a.m.: Winn Brook Elementary School reported missing property. The sports field manager for the town of Belmont side someone stole three “No Dogs Allowed” signs from the Winn Brook field. One sign was near the tennis courts entrance. One by the baseball dugouts and another one across from 93 Sherman St. Footage from a camera on Sherman Street was reviewed and shows the signs were taken on Sept. 4 between 3 and 6 pm. Due to gaps in the camera footage, the person taking the sign could not be seen. 

Wednesday, Sept. 9

4:03 p.m.: Hit and run at the intersection of Common and Waverley Streets. The victim’s white 2016 Subaru Crosstrek was struck while parked in a parking lot on Common Street at 8:30 a.m. today. When she returned at 3:55 p.m., she observed heavy damage to the driver’s side and front driver’s side bumper. There were no visible security cameras in the parking lot at the residence behind the parking lot.

Friday, Sept. 11

6:53 a.m.: A hit and run at the intersection of Trapelo Road and Pleasant Street. A 2019 Mack Waste Management garbage truck was parked on Moraine Street with minor damage to its driver’s side mirror. The same vehicle was involved in an almost identical accident on April 30, 2026. The operator said he was stopped at the intersection of Pleasant Street and Trapelo Road on the shoulder and was in the process of picking up trash barrels when the driver’s side mirror was struck by a passing truck. He was unable to obtain registration information, but believed it was a black pickup truck that struck him and continued driving down Trapelo Road. He was able to pull video from the on-board camera system. It showed a dark color GMC pick-up with an identifiable licence plate number pass and collide mirrors before continuing along Trapelo Road.

Sunday, Sept. 13

7:07 p.m.: LC Variety reported juveniles shoplifting. Ten juveniles, all wearing black, two of them on scooters and the rest on foot. The store clerk said there were two girls and about eight boys, all with varying height wearing all black and black masks similar to balaclava style masks. Officers were unable to locate any juveniles matching the description. The store clerk said one of the juveniles requested a slush, which required him to put his head down to the freezer and was unable to pay attention to what was happening in the store. When he was done, three of the juveniles stood in front of the cash register blocking his view and all of the juveniles were huddled up in the aisles. He took a Push Pop away from one of the juveniles and another one took a bottle of rubbing alcohol and the rest took some candy. He said the store has cameras and his boss will review the video footage. He is unsure if he wants to press charges. It would depend on the value of the items stolen. He called later in the evening to say he would not press charges because the video showed that there were not many items stolen. He said he would email Belmont Police the videos.
