Belmont Police Department Announces Promotion of Capt. Christopher Donahue

Police Chief James Maclsaac, on behalf of the Belmont Police Department, is pleased to announce the promotion of Christopher Donahue to the rank of Captain.

Capt. Donahue was officially appointed to his new rank yesterday. Capt. Donahue was sworn in by Town Clerk Ellen O’Brien Cushman.

"I want to congratulate Capt. Donahue on his well-deserved promotion," said Police Chief Maclsaac. "Throughout his career, Capt. Donahue has shown unwavering dedication to the Belmont Police Department and I am confident he will excel in his newly appointed role."

Fundraiser for local organization helping victims of Ukraine

February 24th marks one year since the war in Ukraine began. Belmont resident Jennifer Hill, founder of Refugee Protection International, along with her staff and volunteers, have made more than a dozen trips into Ukraine from Romania to provide aid to more than 21,000 victims.

Refugee Protection International is continuing to help the victims by helping them evacuate ad providing medical equipment and supplies to Ukrainian hospitals as well as food, hygiene items, fuel, clothing, cash and more.

Belmont High Varsity Hockey Teams Fundraising for Breast Cancer

BHS Hockey Fundraiser

The Belmont High Boys and Girls Hockey teams are having a fundraiser, "Pink the Rink," to benefit the Susan G. Komen breast cancer foundation on Wednesday, Feb. 15th.

The girls will play Arlington at 5 p.m. and the boys will play Arlington at 7 p.m. Admission is free and items will on sale such as signed pink hockey pucks and hats. There will also be a 50/50 raffle.

The annual town election is April 4th.

There are several townwide office positions that need to be filled including one three-year Select Board seat, two three-year School Committee seats, a three-year Board of Health seat, two three-year Library Trustee seats, one three-year Board of Assessors seat, a Belmont Light seat, a Cemetery Commission seat and Town Meeting seats in all eight precincts.

The deadline to file nomination papers is Feb. 14th.

Select Board approves April ballot question for new rink and sports facilities

The Select Board approved placing a question on the April town election ballot for a debt exclusion for a new rink and sports facilities.

Voters this past November were asked the same question but it did not pass.
