Belmont Police Log, Dec. 26-Jan. 1: Suspicious footprints found in snow, home break-ins, road rage and more

The following are excerpts from the Belmont Police log as made available by the Belmont Police Department. The log is public and available for review. All persons are presumed innocent until found guilty in a court of law.

Friday, Dec. 26

8:08 a.m.: A red Gary Fisher mountain bicycle (model RST 191C4) was found on Common Street by the Belmont Highway Yard Department.

1:22 p.m.: A Belmont woman reported receiving a fraudulent call. It appeared to be from her primary care’s office stating they could now deliver her medication. The woman on the phone had an accent and was asking her various questions regarding the amount of medication she takes daily. She was transferred to multiple callers. One of the callers repeated her social security number. This is when she realized the call was fraudulent. She was advised to contact the credit bureaus.

8:22 p.m.: A motor vehicle collided into a utility pole on Winter Street. The operator was complaining of stomach, wrist and back pain. Belmont Fire responded. She believes she hit a patch of ice while traveling on Winter Street, causing her to strike the utility pole in front of 60 Winter Street. Belmont Light also responded to assess the damage to the pole. The Toyota Camry had heavy damage to the front and was towed. The driver was transported to Mount Auburn Hospital by Belmont Fire Rescue. Her license was suspended. She was issued a citation for operating a motor vehicle with a suspended license.

Saturday, Dec. 27

2:41 p.m.: A Belmont woman reported receiving annoying calls and voice mails from someone she worked with at Polaroid over 50 years ago. The voicemail from the person said he would be in the Boston area over the fourth of July and would love to see her. Two years ago, she received calls from him and filed a police report. She was very concerned and had no idea why he was trying to track her down. Belmont Police assisted her with blocking the number and offered to call him, which she said she would appreciate because she wants nothing to do with him. The police officer called him and informed him that she did not want any contact with him and to please stop contacting her. He said he understood.

7:02 p.m.: A Belmont woman reported harassing behavior by a male party. Last September, around the time of Charlie Kirk’s death, she borrowed a cigarette from an unknown male who believes may live in the same housing complex as her. She briefly talked to him about a Charlie Kirck vigil. Since that time, the male has been in her opinion stalking her. He seems to always be outside smoking when she arrives home. She even changed her routine several times, but he still always seems to be around. Sometimes when she walks to Dunkin Donuts on Church Street or to the bus stop in Waverley Square, she will see him walking down a parallel road and then not see him anymore. She said he doesn’t follow her into the store or onto the bus but one time he did get on the same bus. She does not see him when she goes into Boston. She also noticed a broken hinge on her back door. She reached out to the Belmont Housing Authority and a lawyer on the matter. She has a lengthy document of all the interactions and photos of the male, which she said she would email to the police. The male is described as a white male in his late 40s to early 60s, 5-feet-7-inches to 5-feet-9-inches tall, skinny and always wearing flannel pajama pants.

Monday, Dec. 29

9:01 a.m.: An Oak Street resident reported suspicious tracks in the snow of a backyard. The resident said she heard a beeping sound going off every 40 seconds between 3 and 4 a.m. It stopped beeping at around 4 a.m. She saw suspicious footprints later in the morning. The tracks appeared to start at the fence that separates her home and a neighbor and went diagonally across her backyard out to her driveway. Her neighbors are away on vacation, and she requested to have the home checked. Officers checked the neighbor’s home, and it appeared to be secure. There were no footprints in the backyard of the neighbor’s home or by the fence where it looked like someone jumped into the reporting party’s yard.

11:31 a.m.: A Belmont resident said he was receiving suspicious emails from Chase Sapphire Reserve and Citi American Airline every day since Dec. 24th regarding being approved for new credit cards. He does not have either a Chase or Citibank card. He tried calling Chase but couldn’t get through. He called City American Airline and spoke to someone to ask why he is constantly getting emails. Citibank said there may be an individual with the same name who lives in Florida. He was advised to unsubscribe to both Chase and Citibank whenever he gets the emails.

12:12 p.m.: A Belmont woman turned in a Capital One credit card she found on the sidewalk in Belmont Center at noon.

Tuesday, Dec. 30

9:46 a.m.: Officers responded to an alarm on Ripley Road. Officers checked around the house to make sure there were no entries into the home. The doors were locked and windows were closed. The home appeared to be secured. The homeowner arrived 10 minutes later and said she got an alarm on her phone and asked officers to go inside to make sure the ho use was secure. There was no sign of breaking and entering. After clearing the area, the woman called police back to inform them her window in the basement was unlocked. She told officers her basement windows are always locked. Her basement window and three other windows will trigger an alarm throughout the house if there were any entries. The window was shut but the latch was unlocked. She said it appears nothing was stolen.

Wednesday, Dec. 31

8:26 p.m.: A Pine Street resident reported a break-in in progress. She heard footsteps in the upstairs apartment, even though the tenants (her daughter and two grandchildren) were not home.  She then saw two Hispanic females walk out the front door of the second floor unit onto the front walkway. She yelled to the two women, but they did not respond to her. They were speaking in Spanish to a male party down the street towards Trapelo Road. She was unable to observe the male party or any potential vehicle involved. There were no signs of forced entry. The front door of the second floor unit may have been left unlocked. Officers entered the second floor unity and observed a moderate amount of clutter throughout the home, including cat feces in the hallway. Due to the conditions of the unit, it was difficult to tell if anything was disturbed or taken from the home. The suspects could not be found in the area.

10:18 p.m.: A road rage incident was reported at the intersection of Channing Road and Cross Street between a truck and a pedestrian in the crosswalk. Upon arrival, the reporting party pointed out the truck involved and the direction it went in. Officers observed the truck at the intersection of Cross and Brighton Streets and spoke to the driver. He said he was making a lefthand turn onto Cross Street from Channing Road. A man dressed in all black was crossing and he did not see him and drove by him while he was crossing. He could not see the man, otherwise he would have stopped. He said the man yelled profanities at him and spit in his face. After he spit in his face, he remained in his truck and drove away. Officers spoke to the man. He said the truck came close to striking his dog while he was crossing, which angered him and he yelled at the driver to slow down. They exchanged profanities and as he was walking away he heard someone walk behind him and believes the other man’s forearm hit his face. He could not confirm if it was a punch. He got a minor cut on his chin. He was trying not to fight and didn’t want to pursue anything further, “no harm, no foul.” He denied spitting on David and said they both exchanged profanities with each other.

Thursday, Jan. 1

9:17 a.m.: A Belmont man reported his passenger side black rims and tires were stolen and replaced with two silver rims and tires. He just purchased the vehicle two weeks ago. He did not notice footprints around the vehicle.

12:51 p.m.: A Belmont woman reported receiving a fraudulent call from someone saying they were calling to verify her Medicare card. They provided information for her to confirm , including her name, address, phone number, date of birth and doctor. When they provided her social security number and asked her to confirm it, she hung up.

Belmont Police responded to four mental health and seven domestic calls Dec. 26 to Jan. 1.
