Belmont Police Log, July 30 to Aug. 11: Illegal dumping, hit and run, road rage, 12-year-old bicyclist struck, Tesla crashes into CVS building on Trapelo Road and more

The following are excerpts from the Belmont Police log as made available by the Belmont Police Department. The log is public and available for review. All persons are presumed innocent until found guilty in a court of law.

Thursday, July 30

1:23 p.m.: A Belmont resident reported check fraud. She mailed a check on March 15 in front of the Waverley Square Post Office made out to Eye/Smile for $36.25. Today she learned the check was washed and cashed for $1,200 on July 22, 2026 and changed to Fabienne Jeune with a signature that was not hers. The check date was also changed from March 15, 2026 to July 22, 2026.

Friday, July 31

6:42 a.m.: A Belmont resident reported seeing suspicious charges on her Visa debit card since July 28, 2026. There were three or four charges totaling more than $1,000, which Visa marked as possibly fraudulent. Visa cancelled her card and issued a new one. On July 30, she received a package she did not order from Best Buy containing Airpods valued at $477.06. While she was out she received a text from Amazon about a package she ordered containing pillowcases and creams valued at around $100. When she returned home, the package was no longer at her residence. She does not have cameras but her neighbor does. The neighbor’s video shows a figure dressed in all black leave her driveway who appears to have a package. She has started receiving suspicious texts and phone calls from 551-356-3709. The person on the other end and their “supervisor” attempted to have her provide her pin number and other sensitive data. She recognized it as a scam and did not give any information.

Saturday, August. 1

2:51 p.m.: Rancatore’s Ice Cream on Leonard Street reported a suspicious person. He purchased an ice cream and left. Then, shortly after he returned and rushed into the bathroom carrying a plastic bag containing lotion. He did not exit the bathroom for 15 minutes. Upon his exit, he was asked to leave the business. He has been in the store before demonstrating the same kind of behavior. Belmont Police searched the area and found a man matching the description sitting in his vehicle directly in front of the business. He was asked if he went into the restroom and initially responded he did not, then later said he went in there to wash his face. He was advised that he was no longer allowed in the business. Rancatore’s was provided with information on the trespass process.

8:30 p.m.: A hit and run was reported at the intersection of Belmont and White Streets that caused damage to the front driver side bumper of the victim’s vehicle. It was captured on his dash camera. The other vehicle appeared to be a dark colored mid-sized SUV. The video will be provided to the police.

Sunday, August 2

A Goden Street resident reported a motor vehicle break-in. Someone entered the resident’s unlocked vehicle at 2:25 a.m.. Video and photos of the individual who entered the vehicle were provided. A male is observed in the vehicle at the end of the driveway. He then continues towards another vehicle and when the motion light turns on. The male then immediately leaves the area. Items were thrown about the car and an air pump valued at $40 was taken. 

11:30 a.m.: A Belmont resident reported check fraud. She mailed a check on May 15 at a mailbox located at the intersection of Oakley and Chester Roads. The check was made out to the MBTA for $4 for a parking fee. When she reviewed her bank statement on Saturday, she discovered the check amount was changed to $850.26 and the date was changed to July 24, 2026 and payable to Isabella Newsome. There was an account number in the memo of the check that the victim did not recognize. She will report the incident to her bank. 

Monday, Aug. 3

9:24 a.m.: Purecoat North LLC on Hittinger Street reported a stolen license plate. A stolen motor vehicle form was filled out and entered into CJIS. 

1 p.m.: A Belmont resident said that on July 17, a TD bank check linked to his account was cashed for $2,310.22. She never mailed the check and does not know how the check was stolen. IT was payable to someone named Michael Buckley who she does not know. He was advised to stay in contact with his bank.

6:13 p.m.: A Belmont resident reported his son’s bicycle was stolen. It was at his friend’s house on Hoitt Road on July 20. When they went to retrieve it on July 28, it was no longer there. In its place was a different bicycle that did not belong to his son or the homeowner. The missing bicycle is a white Haro Flightline One valued at approximately $600. The bicycle was entered into NCIC as stolen.

9 p.m.: A Belmont resident reported his car was stolen on July 17 in Montreal, Canada while visiting friends. It was recovered later the same evening, then brought to a repair shop. It was retrieved on July 22 and driven home. Some time last week while driving he received an alert on his phone stating they were being tracked by an unknown device. He believed it was an air tab on their dog. He received it again, but this time their dog was not with them. They could hear the sound from a device coming from their front tire. Belmont Police removed some of the underbody shield pieces located in front of the front passenger tire and the device fell out. Is it a Smart Tag ACCUTAG Smart Tracker. It was placed in the evidence locker. The victims could not think of anyone who would have placed the tracker and believe it is linked to when their car was stolen. 

Tuesday, Aug. 4

9:44 a.m.: Illegal dumping reported on Channing Road. The resident reported someone was dumping construction material into her trash barrels. It has happened three separate times since the spring. Yesterday, she discovered four trash bags behind her bushes. One time she witnessed a black pickup truck in front of her home. An individual jumped out and quickly dumped a bag into her trash bin. She was unable to get the license plate information.

Thursday, Aug. 6

9:54 a.m.: A Belmont resident reported check fraud. On July 29, she mailed a check inside the United States Post Office at 492 Trapel Road in Belmont. It was made out to National Grid for $13.77 and posted to her account on Aug. 4. On Aug. 6, she received a phone call from an employee at her bank who was concerned because she noticed the same check number posted a second time on her account for $2,864.30 made out to Stephanie Sharp. She put a stop on the payment and froze her account. She has not suffered financial loss at this time.

1:35 p.m.: Officers responded to a hit and run at the intersection of Concord Avenue and Watson Road. A license plate was provided. The victim said she was traveling on Concord Avenue slowly in traffic due to the active construction on Concord Avenue. A male driver in a black sedan entered her lane from Watson Road striking their front end bumper on the right side quarter panel of her vehicle. After the crash, she stopped her vehicle and exited in an attempt to get the other operator to pull over to perform a paper exchange. Due to the build up of traffic, she was asked to move her car to the parking lot at Rockland Trust Bank. She saw the operator of the other vehicle put his arms up in the air after striking her vehicle. He pulled over momentarily, then left the scene without providing any information. She had minor visible damage and paint transfer from the other vehicle. A search of the license plate revealed it belonged to a Waltham resident. Belmont Police called and spoke to her. She said her son, a dog walker, uses the vehicle for his work and provided his cell number. Officers spoke to him on the phone. He confirmed he was driving his mother’s vehicle. Belmont Police asked if he could explain what happened at 1:35 p.m. in the area of Concord Avenue and Watson Road. He denied being involved in a motor vehicle crash. He was asked to pull over. The front plate of the vehicle is missing. He claimed it must have fallen off at some point. He was cited for leaving the scene of a collision after property damage. A CJIS query revealed he had an expired/non-renewable driver’s license status due to unpaid excise tax and pay by plate. His driving history includes a surchargeable incident in September 2025 as well as numerous violations of the auto laws since 2019. He was cited for operating without license.

3:25 p.m.: A hit and run reported. The vehicle was parked on Belmont Street by Falmouth Street. The driver said he was going eastbound on Belmont Street when he stopped for a pedestrian in the crosswalk at Belmont Street and Falmouth Street. He was then struck from behind and the vehicle made a U-turn and fled the scene. A witness said while traveling westbound on Belmont Street, where two lanes merge to one, a maroon sedan got “pinched” at the merge. The vehicle then “Whipped” around him and continued to accelerate. The front end passenger side of the maroon sedan struck the rear end driver’s side of the other vehicle. The maroon sedan fled the scene. It was operated by a dark-skinned male, possibly Hispanic or Middle Eastern with long hair and a beard. There was a female passenger in the front seat. Officers attempted to contact the owner of the offending vehicle who lives in New Hampshire. Belmont Police attempted to contact him. He said he has not left his home and does not have a maroon sedan. Belmont Police ran numerous variations of the New Hampshire plate provided with possible one-off matches and did not find a vehicle remotely matching the description of the maroon sedan. There was moderate damage to the rear driver’s side of the motor vehicle. 

4:21 p.m.: A 12-year-old on an electric bicycle was struck by a car on Trapelo Road near Sunrise Pediatric Dental. Belmont Fire and Rescue also responded. The bicyclist crashed into the side front door of the vehicle. The victim was wearing a helmet. There appeared to be no damage to the bicycle. 

Friday, Aug. 7

11:46 a.m.: A Belmont resident reported check washing. Exxon Mobil called her to tell her she missed a payment. She mailed the check one month ago so she called her bank and cancelled the check. The bank called her on July 16 and told her the check was cashed but the money was refunded right away because she already canceled it. The check write on May 29, 2026 to Exxon Mobile was for $150. I was mailed inside the Waverley Post Office. The check date was changed to June 20, 2026 for the amount of $2,700.62 made out to Hannah Ellerhoot. It was cashed on July 26, 2026. The signature on the check matched hers. 

Saturday, Aug. 8

10:50 a.m.: Belmont Police responded to an individual yelling at people before entering the library. A witness who was in front of the library campaigning for political candidates said a man was riding his bike down the designated bike lane along Concord Avenue. While attempting to pass another individual walking in the bike lane, he struck a man with his bike. There was construction happening on the sidewalks along Concord Avenue, which prevented pedestrians from walking on them. The male who was struck got extremely upset and began yelling at him an “unnecessary” amount before they both entered the library.  He said he stated, “on you left” two times when trying to pass the individual. He then accidentally struck the individual, causing him to hell at him. Belmont Police found the man in the library locked in a second floor bathroom. When he emerged, he was in a distraught state. He said he wanted to be left alone. He has a history of mental health issues known to the department. He was having a tough morning as he was struck by an opening door. He was walking to the library when his elbow was hit. He said he has been struggling the last 11 years and has been hit by motor vehicles and bicycles hundreds of times and was wondering how much more he had to put up with. He also thought the red shirt that the man who struck him was wearing resembled Elizabeth Warren along with the haircuts of several of the witnesses. He agreed to be transported to the hospital to speak to someone regarding his mental health. 

1:16 p..: The pastor of a church on Brighton Street reported a missing lock. About four weeks ago, the church installed a new fence to prevent individuals from cutting through the property. An individual was observed walking through the church property, but he was unsure how they were able to access it. When he went to the gate, he found the lock was missing and was unable to locate it in the area. He was the only key holder to the lock . The last time he saw it was when he installed it. A new lock is being installed and a “No Trespassing” sign will be posted to deter individuals from cutting through and limit liability. 

Sunday, Aug. 9

CVS on Trapelo road reported a vehicle crashed into the building A woman and her son were standing outside their 2018 white Tela. The woman said she was attempting to park and mistakenly drove forward into the side of the building. She and her son were uninjured. There was noticeable damage to the vehicle and the exterior wall of the building to the left of the entrance in the rear parking lot of the building. No one was injured inside the store. Belmont Fire requested the Building Department to inspect the damage. 

7:06 p.m.: Three individuals were observed riding mopeds on Pleasant Street. Two of the mopeds had female passengers on the back of the vehicles. None of the operators or passengers were wearing helmets. Belmont Police activated the emergency blue lights and siren and attempted to make a traffic stop. The operators of the mopeds and the passengers looked at the police but continued to speed up. It became clear to the officer they were not going to stop, so he immediately turned off his siren and emergency blue lights and returned to the normal flow of traffic. Belmont Communications was informed of the failure to stop. The officer could not make out any of the number plates of the mopeds. The operators were black males wearing ski masks. One passenger was a blond woman, approximately 18 years old. The other passenger was also a white female, unknown hair color, approximately 18 years old.

Monday, Aug. 10

6:45 a.m.: An Acorn Park Driver resident reported damage to a vehicle. Her 2014 Nissan was parked in front of the building since Aug. 8. When she came outside this morning, she noticed two long white scratches across her rear passenger side door and a minor dent. Her vehicle was parked in a legal parking space. She was advised to file a claim with her insurance company.

4:18 p.m.: A road rage incident was reported by a mother and son. At 3:33 p.m., the woman picked up her son from summer camp at the high school. She was at the red light by the main entrance to the school when a Honda pulled up beside her. The driver was waving and screaming at her. When the light turned green, she drove straight onto Goden Street. The Honda sped up behind her. The driver then cut her off at the intersection of Goden and School Streets and blocked her and her son. One of the passengers was taking pictures of her license plate. The Honda then drove away. She described the driver as a white female in her mid-40s, dark hair and a tattoo on her left arm. She was advised to contact the police if she encounters this person again. 

Tuesday, Aug. 11

9:20 a.m.: Two workers contracted to work in Belmont for Asplundh said while they were removing a tree on Aug. 10 on Belmont Street marked for removal by the tree warden, residents on Belmont Street began to harass them about the work they were doing. The men said a female, described as the mother, was the first to approach them, telling them to leave her tree alone and stop what they were doing. They were next approached by her adult son who also told them to stop and then began to call one of them a “terrorist.” The male got into his car and aggressively drove it to the end of the driveway, demanding they get out of his way. The residents then called the Public Works department to complain about the tree being removed. 

Belmont Police responded to 19 mental health and two domestic calls, July 27 to Aug. 11.
