Belmont Police Log, June 7-12: Vandalism to sign at Beth El Temple, break-in on A Street and more

The following are excerpts from the Belmont Police log as made available by the Belmont Police Department. The log is public and available for review. All persons are presumed innocent until found guilty in a court of law. 

Saturday, June 7

6:41 a.m.: An A Street resident reported a break-in. Someone entered the home through an unlocked door. A necklace valued at approximately $600 and a knife set valued at approximately $100 was stolen.

Monday, June 9

11:30 a.m.: Moraine Auto Repair reported damage to a motor vehicle that was parked at the lot. A woman who rents a parking spot believes the hood of her car was intentionally scratched on multiple occasions. The car was also keyed.

1:18 p.m.: A Belmont resident reported a male trespassing on her property. She has routinely told him he is not allowed on the property. The male said he is the boyfriend of a resident in the building, and he is getting her mail and using her car while she is away. The property manager of the building ensured him he is not trespassed. The reporting party also said there were several times where she felt intimidated by the male and one time he yelled at her through her car window. The day before he took a picture of her. She believes he parks his car in front of her door to intimidate her and she is fearful of him. The property manager is aware of the situation and said that he is not trespassed from the property. He was advised to alert property management when he is on site.

4:08 p.m.: Neighbor dispute reported. One neighbor believes the other neighbor is feeding her dog stuff that purposely got the dog sick. She witnessed the neighbor call her dog to the fence in the yard and believes this was to give the dog things to make it sick. She began observing her dog acting lethargic and noticed it would throw up or have diarrhea multiple times after witnessing her neighbors go near the dog at the fence in the yard. After she began closely monitoring her dog in the yard, the lethargic behavior, vomiting and diarrhea stopped. She was advised to closely monitor her dog when it is in the yard and to ask her neighbors not to go near her dog.

Tuesday, June 10

9:10 a.m.: Collision between a 2019 Tesla operated by a Watertown man and a 2020 Mercedez operated by a Belmont man at the intersection of Common Street and Horace Road. Both vehicles were towed. The operator of the Tesla was issued a citation for marked lanes violation.

Wednesday, June 11

2:22 a.m.: A vehicle on Skahan Road was towed due to its insurance being revoked.

8:40 a.m.: Collision at the intersection of Common Street and Trapelo Road between a 2022 Tesla operated by a Hanson man and a 2014 Volvo operated by a Newton woman. The operator of the Volvo was issued a citation for passing violation and license not in possession.

5:21 p.m.: A Trapelo Road resident reported the brakes on her Power electric bicycle valued at $2,000 were tampered with She parked the bike at Star Market, then rode it to Butler School, then MIT. When she rode home from MIT, she noticed her brakes weren’t functioning properly.  The hand brakes were scratched and appeared to have been tightened with a tool.

Thursday, June 12

9:30 p.m.: Vandalism to a sign on the Blanchard Street side of Beth El Temple. The sign, which read, “Stand Up to Jewish Hate,” had the words, “And Genocide” written on the bottom of the sign in large pink letters. The temple will be reviewing footage from the outside cameras and will notify the police if they see the individual who vandalized the sign. The sign was removed.

Belmont Police responded to one domestic and three mental health calls between June 7th and June 13th.
