Belmont Police Log, May 9-22: Several overnight car break-ins

The following are excerpts from the Belmont Police log as made available by the Belmont Police Department. The log is public and available for review. All persons are presumed innocent until found guilty in a court of law.
Friday, May 9
11:53 a.m.: A Belmont resident who is a member of the Waverley Oaks Athletic Club in Waltham discovered fraudulent charges on her credit card on four different occasions totaling $1,167.50. The manager of the club learned a different name was used for the transactions using the same bank account information as the victim. She has contacted her bank to obtain a new credit card.
7:13 p.m.: Two-car crash at the intersection of Brighton Road and Pleasant Street between a 2009 Honda operated by an Acton man and a 2023 Toyota operated by a Waltham man. The Honda was rear-ended by the Toyota. The operator of the Toyota said he saw an Arlington police cruiser with its emergency lights on behind him so he pulled off to the right side of the road before the intersection of Lake and Pleasant Streets. Once the cruiser passed, he attempted to pass the vehicle in front of him because it wasn’t moving. The driver of the Toyota was issued a citation for marked lanes violation.
8:27 p.m.: McLean Hospital reported a stolen motor vehicle. A patient reported her friend took her car from the Bowdrich lot because she did not want her to leave without getting a full treatment program. She did not give permission for the friend to take her car. She does not want her friend to get in trouble. She just wants her car back. A Belmont police officer spoke to the patient’s friend to try to find a solution. He advised her to return the vehicle or she would be charged with unauthorized use of a motor vehicle. The friend told the officer the patient is a liar and that she gave her friend money to purchase the car. The car is registered in the patient’s name. The patient said her friend did not make anything more than an initial payment for the car. The patient said she did not want to press charges at this time. She was advised to contact the police if her friend does not return the vehicle. They later came to an agreement. The vehicle would be returned to the patient’s son’s father.
Saturday, May 10
6:44 a.m.: The Jayne’s Flowers storefront window was shattered. The owner said the window was broken when he arrived at 6:30 a.m. There were no other damaged business properties in the area. The owner said he does not believe anyone made entry or that anything was missing from the store at this time. If he is able to obtain any camera footage he will share it with the Belmont Police.
1 p.m.: A Belmont resident reported his 15-year-old daughter and 14-year-old son left the house on bikes and he was unable to find them. He has visitation rights with his children until 6 p.m. He was concerned for their safety because it was raining and they did not answer his phone calls. Belmont Police called the daughter’s cell phone and spoke to her. The officer asked if she was going to return to her father’s house. She said she and her brother would not be returning. She didn’t like her father because he was very abusive to her and her brother when they were growing up. Her mother knows where she is and she would be returning home. Belmont Police called the mother to ask if she knew where her children were. She said she was not concerned for her children’s safety and they informed her they would be home later. Belmont Police informed the father the children are safe and would not be returning to his home today.
5:56 p.m.: Star Market reported a white male sleeping on a mulch mound between two parking spaces on the Pleasant Street side of Star Market on a yellow blanket. When the Belmont Police officer woke him up, he appeared to be confused. The Belmont Police officer asked why he was sleeping on a mulch mound and he said, “I walked from Lowell and I got tired.” His feet were bloody and he was not making any sense. He was talking about Ireland, white people, native Americans, the USA and socks. He was asked if he was on any medications, ingested illicit drugs or drank any alcohol and the man responded, “you speak Gaelic? I play soccer and ski.” He was transported to Mount Auburn Hospital by Belmont Fire and Pro EMS ambulance.
6:17 p.m.: A Belmont resident reported her dog was attacked by another dog and she was bitten in the ankle. Belmont Fire and Rescue also responded and gave her medical attention. She said she was walking her dog on Francis Street when she saw a male walking toward her with his dog who was unleashed and following behind him. Her dog was then attacked by his dog. She intervened to separate them and was bitten in the lower right leg by the unleased dog. The owner’s dog said he slipped out the back door to chase a rabbit. He chased him into the street and saw his dog barking at the other dog. He chased the dog into the street. The two dogs were barking at each other and then started to fight.
Sunday, May 11
8:02 a.m.: A Cowdin Street resident reported his black Jeep Grand Cherokee and blue Lexus. GX460 motor vehicles broken into. They were unlocked. Nothing appears to be missing. Both vehicles were in the driveway overnight. At approximately 5 a.m., he noticed the driver’s side door of the Jeep was ajar. The glove compartment was left open and various items were rummaged throughout the vehicle. The glove compartment of the Lexus was also left open and various items were thrown about the vehicle. The owner of the vehicles said he would check with neighbors to see if they have any video surveillance cameras that may have caught the activity overnight. A neighbor said he has video showing people running out of his driveway and checking car doors.
8:32 a.m.: A Pleasant Street resident reported his Honda Odyssey was broken into while it was parked overnight at the Open Door Baptist Church parking lot. Early this morning, he noticed his driver’s side door was open. He does not believe anything was taken. The video surveillance camera faces Pleasant Street, in front of the house and the car was parked on the side of the home. He will ask his neighbors if they have cameras that caught any activity. His vehicle was unlocked.
10:21 a.m.: A Tobey Road resident’s wallet was found in Melrose. Officers asked her to see if she had her wallet inside her motor vehicle. She said she usually keeps it inside her Honda Passport and just learned it is missing. They will check surveillance cameras in the area. Her vehicle was unlocked.
10:37 a.m.: A Pilgrim Road resident said at 2:05 a.m., someone opened the door to her vehicle parked in her driveway and stole a few dollars from the glove compartment. She left the doors unlocked. Her husband has video from their Ring camera and she will email it to the Belmont Police.
10:40 a.m.: A Fitzmaurice Circle resident reported his Jeep Cherokee was entered overnight Items were strewn inside the vehicle. As far as he could tell, nothing was taken. He will check with neighbors from surveillance video. His vehicle was unlocked. A neighbor said they have video surveillance and may have seen what looked like a small BMW, blue, in the area at 2:30 a.m. Belmont Police asked him to hold the video and he said he would.
12:44 p.m.: A rental vehicle parked on Fitzmaurice Circle was broken into overnight. He does not remember if it was locked. No personal items were inside the vehicle and nothing was taken. He said he would be returning the rental vehicle Monday or Tuesday. He does not have security cameras but will check with neighbors.
12:58 p.m.: An Oliver Road resident reported his vehicle was broken into overnight. Surveillance video shows what appears to be a dark-colored SUV riding by his home and stopping. A couple of individuals appear and one enters his driveway and his car. The suspect had a hoodie on and a mask. Nothing was taken from his vehicle. It was unlocked.
1:26 p.m.: A confused elderly black woman was found by an officer while cruising in the area of Common Street and Dunbarton Road. She was sitting on a stone wall. There was a heavy language barrier. She spoke Italian and said she got lost. Cambridge Police contacted Belmont Communications to inform them the woman was reported missing from a Cambridge address. She was driven back to the address and reunited with her family.
4:15 p.m.: An unwanted person was reported for squatting inside a Willow Street address for almost a full week. He was a general contractor doing carpentry work at the home. Officers spoke to the Hispanic man using Google translate. He said he worked for a tile company in Somerville who was doing work in the house. He confirmed he was sleeping there because he was working there. Officers told him he could not sleep in the house anymore and could only be there when he was working. He agreed to leave the house and not sleep there anymore and took his belongings with him. Officers also discovered the insurance was revoked on the man’s vehicle. His vehicle was towed and a friend picked him up.
5:11 p.m.: Collision at the intersection of Common Street and Hastings Road between a 2024 Kia operated by a Cambridge man and a 2010 Toyota operated by a Watertown man. The Cambridge man was issued a citation for failure to stop/yield.
6:15 p.m.: Two Bradford Road residents reported their vehicles broken into overnight. A blue Coach purse with no contents was taken from one of the vehicles. They both received a note from a neighbor notifying them there were vehicle break-ins in the area. Both vehicles were unlocked.
Monday, May 12
9:56 a.m.: A Frost Street resident reported a motor vehicle break-in. A handful of change less than $5 was missing.
11:10 a.m.: Harassment reported by a Belmont resident who said her landlord was touching her property. She has an active HPO against him. The landlord informed officers he would be going to the home to do work today. He was mowing the lawn as he does every two weeks. He admitted to moving some of the tenant’s belongings in the backyard in order to cut the grass. A criminal application was filed against the landlord for violating the harassment prevention order.
2:26 p.m. A Gilmore Road resident reported her motor vehicle broken into. A handful of change less than $5 was missing.
4:30 p.m.: A Cross Street resident reported his Toyota Highlander broken into. Approximately $60 worth of cash was taken from the center console and a Rancatore’s Ice Cream gift card. His neighbor said he would review the camera footage and email Belmont Police if he finds anything.
6:50 p.m.: A black lab was sitting on the balcony of an Acorn Park Drive apartment. It was outside all day barking. The owners have left the dog outside for the past few days. He was concerned about the heat. Officers spoke to the juvenile son of the dog’s owner who said she woudn’t be home until 8:30 p.m. Officers informed him a complaint was received about the dog being left outside. He said his mother prefers to have the dog outside. Belmont Police asked him to bring the dog inside to give him water. The child was informed a report would be filed with the Animal Control Officer who may be in touch with his parents.
7:49 p.m.: A disturbance at Belmont Car Wash. A Waltham resident said he was riding his bike home and was riding by Belmont Car Wash when a company vehicle turned into the business and cut him off. He yelled and swore at the driver of the company vehicle to use a turn signal. The operator of the truck yelled back at him calling him an obscenity. As he ran away, the operator of the company truck called him a racial slur. He has video of the vehicle and will email it to the police. Belmont Police informed an employee of Belmont Car Wash about the operator of the company truck. He said he is unsure who the employee was that was operating the company truck He said he would speak to the manager in the morning. At 9:30 p.m., the victim emailed footage from the incident. The video shows the truck pulling on front of him and the argument that occurred between him and the operator. The identity of the operator is unclear in the video, but the video shows multiple employees yelling back at him before one calls him a racial slur.
Tuesday, May 13
10:32 a.m.: A Claflin Street resident reported her vehicle broken into. She is not sure if it was unlocked. Coins were taken. She also thinks here paper registration may be missing.
7 p.m.: A Juniper Road resident reported her vehicle was vandalized. There were little dots of white pain on the trunk area and roof of her vehicle, a 2017 black Audi.
7:32 p.m.: A 50-year-old Belmont male bicyclist was struck by a 2021 Ford operated by a Woburn man at the intersection of Trapelo Road and Common Street. The Woburn man was issued a citation for failure to give signal.
Wednesday, May 14
6:36 p.m.: A Belmont resident reported a ring and two envelopes of cash missing from the dresser drawer in her bedroom. The ring is gold with a 3.05 ct. European cut center diamond surrounded by three diamonds, totaling seven diamonds, valued at approximately $22,000. The two envelopes contained approximately $500 ash. She last saw the ring and envelopes April 17, 2025. She and her husband have not observed any suspicious activity at their property, but the cleaner she has employed for the past 25 years, has a new employee who was last at her residence on April 24, 2025. When she noticed the items missing, she called her cleaner to asked him about the items and he said he would look into it. Belmont Police attempted to call the cleaner and left him a voice mail requesting a call back. She provided a photo of the ring.
Friday, May 16
6:37 a.m: A Betts Road resident reported his 2019 Audi stolen. It was parked in his driveway. He does not believe he left the keys inside the vehicle. Belmont Police put out a BOLO to the surrounding areas.
10:32 a.m.: A Marlboro Street resident reported plants missing from his porch. The incident was caught on her camera. Officers were able to locate the vehicle and spoke to the male party who identified himself as the son of the home’s landlord. HE said the reporting party did not pay rent, has an expired lease and an eviction is in process. She was told to keep her personal items out of the common areas of the two family house. He was removing her plants to clear them from the common area and to ensure a clear and unobstructed egress for the other unit. Three of the four plants belonging to the tenant were located. The landlord said he would find the missing fourth plant. He said he was also responding to a complaint about rats it the garage where the tenant stores trash.
1:32 p.m.: A tenant reported her landlord next door was staring at her while holding a hammer. She felt threatened and screamed for other neighbors to come and help. The landlord then left.
6:39 p.m.: Illegal dumping of old wood and a wooden chair reported on Burnham Street. Officers spoke to two individuals who said they were leaving the items on the sidewalk to see if anyone would take them for free. They were advised not to leave any belongings on the street anymore.
Saturday, May 17
7:51 a.m.: Two vehicles registered to Built Well were broken into on Vernon Road. They were unlocked. Nothing appears to be missing. There are no cameras in the area.
7:54 a.m.: A Stanley Road resident reported a motor vehicle broken into and rummaged through. His academy cruiser bag with academy paperwork, academy laptop, laptop bag, laptop charger, BDU police pants and his town issued orange training Glock 19 mock firearm were missing. He found his academy cruiser bag and laptop in the middle of the road. The other items were not recovered. The vehicle was unlocked. There was no footage captured of the incident.
7:57 a.m.: A Brookside Avenue resident reported a 2024 Toyota Prius and 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee were broken into. A Couple of rolls of quarters were taken. Both vehicles were unlocked. There were no surveillance cameras in the area.
8:13 a.m.: A Stanley Road resident reported his motor vehicle broken into. Nothing was taken. The vehicle was unlocked. Nothing was captured on camara.
8:15 a.m.: Another Brookside Avenue resident reported her vehicle broken into and quarters stolen. She said she would check with her neighbor who has a Ring camera to see if there is footage of the incident. The vehicles were unlocked.
8:27 a.m.: A Vernon Road resident reported his vehicle broken into. Nothing was taken. The vehicle. Was unlocked. There were no cameras to capture the driveway.
12 noon: A Stanley Road resident reported a break-in. A $200 pair of Rayban sunglasses were stolen. His Ring camera has footage of an individual and car pulling up in front of the house and enter the driveway.
12:43 p.m: A Belmont resident reported identity fraud. Someone used the same name, social security number, address and date of birth as her husband claiming to work at General Hospital Corporation. As a result of this, she was not able to renew her application for Food Stamps through the Department of Transitional Assistance (DTA). She was advised to file a report.
3:36 p.m.: A Vernon Road resident has video surveillance footage of overnight car breaks in the area. The flash drive was logged into evidence and placed in the evidence locker.
9:02 p.m.: Belmont Police were informed by the Massachusetts State Police that a stolen white Dodge Ram with New Hampshire plates towing a canoe carrier was involved n multiple accidents including one with personal injury on Route 2. Belmont Police located the Dodge with heavy front end damage and sparks coming from the right rear of the trailer carrying multiple crew style boats. Belmont Police attempted to stop the vehicle but it continued driving northbound on Blanchard Road towards Hittinger Street. It was throwing heavy sparks from the rear. It stalled or came ot a stop after it proceeded over the railroad crossing. The Belmont Police officer drew his issued firearm and began giving the operator orders to turn off the vehicle and show his hands. Cambridge Police units surrounded the vehicle. He dropped his hands and bent over towards the underneath of the seat. He was again ordered to show his hands and he complied. He repeated the behavior, despite warnings to keep his hands visible. A Cambridge police officer attempted to open the vehicle’s door but it was locked. The suspect was transported to Mount Auburn Hospital for a mental health evaluation. Cambridge Police will be handling the criminal investigation.
Sunday, May 18
11:04 a.m.: A Belmont resident reported he was contacted by someone from HSBC bank informing him he just opened an account and was part of money laundering and that he would need to download an app called “signal”. He downloaded the app, which would monitor him and make sure he complies and does not evade the Virginia Police Department. He was advised to delete the app and not to communicate.
Monday, May 19
7:29 p.m.: A Cambridge resident’s 1979 Ferrari was on fire in front of 701 Pleasant St. The Belmont Police sergeant determined the fire was coming out of the fuel cap. The intersections of Trapelo Road and Pleasant Street and Concord Avenue and Pleasant Street were shut down. Belmont Fire and Rescue contained and extinguished the fire. The operator said he was traveling on Concord Avenue, about to make a right turn on Pleasant Street. When he came to a complete stop, he heard a loud bang and saw fire coming from the trunk. He pulled to the side of the road and used a fire extinguisher he had but it did not extinguish the fire. He then ran into the police station for help.
Tuesday, May 20
11:22 a.m.: Collision at 65 Leonard St. between a 2014 Toyota operated by a Waltham woman. The operator was issued a citation for unsafe operator and no inspection sticker.
12:20 p.m.: An Asian female was found walking up the off ramp. She was reunited with her family.
5:16 p.m.: A Collision at the intersection of Concord Avenue and Robinwood Road between a 2018 Audi operated by a Belmont resident and a 2012 Ford operated by a Lexington resident. The operator of the Ford was issued a citation for failure to yield.
Wednesday, May 21
9:25 a.m.: Collision between a 2011 Volkswagen operated by a Woburn man and a 2010 Camry operated by a Dedham man. The Everett man was issued a citation for collision with motor vehicle in traffic.
10:48 a.m.: A Belmont resident reported writing a check to ADT for a monthly payment of $374. The check was altered and washed.
Thursday, May 22
10:15 a.m.: An unoccupied motor vehicle rolled down the street and struck a tree on Stults Road.
Belmont Police responded to 4 domestic and 4 mental health calls between May 9 and May 23, 2025.
