Science for the Public
+ Science for the Public: Using Gravitational Lensing to Detect Dark Matter , January 14th, 2025. Recorded live at the Beech Street Center, Belmont MA. Guest: Jacqueline McCleary, Ph.D., Assistant Professor of Physics, Northeastern University. Dark matter accounts for some 27 percent of the universe but is invisible. One promising technique to reveal it is the analysis of gravitational lensing that very occasionally aligns galaxy clusters. The much-noted “cosmic question mark” image for this event is the result of a rare alignment between two distant galaxies due to gravitational lensing. Professor Jacqueline McCleary explains how cosmologists use such examples of weak gravitational lensing between galaxy clusters to explore the nature of elusive dark matter and its interaction with galaxies. She discusses how cosmologists gather and analyze data from observatories on mountaintops, in the stratosphere, and in space. 00:42:16

Science for the Public
+ Mario Livio, the distinguished former astrophysicist at Hubble Space Telescope (until 2015) and best-selling science author, discusses his latest book, co-authored with Nobel Laureate Jack Szostak, "Is Earth Exceptional?" One of the most fascinating questions is whether there is life -and especially intelligent life- beyond our planet? His book provides the best information about the requirements for life and how scientists search for life in the cosmos. Dr. Livio explains the challenge of identifying life elsewhere when we have only the example of life’s emergence on Earth. Importantly, the book combines the unique expertise of astrophysics (Mario Livio) and geochemistry (Jack Szostak) in a very timely consideration of the possibility of life elsewhere. 00:43:16

+ Cancer Research And Why It's Crucial Today. Guest: Gerald Denis, Ph.D., Shipley Prostate Cancer Research Professor; Co-Director, BU-BMC Cancer Center, Boston University. Dr. Denis explains how cancer research works, the international influence of American cancer research, and how the recent federal (NIH) defunding sets back the progress in cancer treatment at a time when cancers are increasing.

This can enable significant independence. However, brain chip devices might also be developed that would enable programs for mind control. Individuals who are paralyzed or speechless due to injury or disease are able to learn to control motion and/or speech by means of a brain-computer-interface device. This can enable significant independence. However, brain chip devices might also be developed that would enable programs for mind control. On the Job
+ Back in Belmont with The Jensen Hus - Dishington Construction team as we embark on our latest journey.... A 1930's French farmhouse in the Belmont Hill section just outside Boston. We begin in the middle of our design and scope development as the schematic plans for the remodel are complete and we begin to meet our various trades at the site for accurate specifications and pricing.

On the Job
+ Ahhhh, the joys of general contracting! Join Nate Dishington and the Jensen Hus Design Build team, minus 1 for a new adventure in building and remodeling. Jose takes a break from the team for spell and Nate steps in the void to install our Kitchen Visions cabinetry at the Belmont Hills job. A good kitchen starts with god design, so we follow the plan to get our boxes in place and ready for stone templates. Dave is working on bettering himself with self help talks and we work on finalizing the KLAR window installation
