This I Believe
A school project of Chenery Middle School 5th grade students, coordinated by Librarian Karen Duff during the 2011- 2012 school year. Below is message from Karen Duff about the project:
This I Believe
300 fifth graders at the Chenery Middle School created the “This I Believe” podcast as part of their media literacy curriculum during library time. Librarian Karen Duff produced these recordings by transforming her office into a studio using a good quality microphone and the free audio software Audacity.
Teachers guided their students through the writing and revision process. All students were enthusiastically engaged in writing about values that are important to them as young people in 2012. When it came time to record, they embraced the challenge and put their anxiety aside. What you will hear is the culmination of months of hard work and dedication.
I want to thank all of the 5th grade teachers and students, our tech guru John Parkinson, Principal St. George for wholeheartedly embracing this project and the Library,
Belmont Media Center for hosting & editing the podcasts, and all the parents & guardians of our 5th graders for raising such great children!
Special thanks to the Foundation for Belmont Education for supporting and funding media literacy education at Chenery. Without their support, this project would not have happened!
This I Believe, these 5th graders are wonderful and the future is a bright place with them in it!
